What is a Web Ring?
A web ring is a way to group sites with similar content by linking them together in a circle, or ring. The idea is that once a visitor is at one site in the web ring, they can click on a "Next" or "Previous" link to go to adjacent sites in the ring and--if they do it long enough--end up where they started. Each site in a specific web ring displays identical code and graphics to facilitate ring surfing.
What is the R.P.C.C. Ring?
The R.P.C.C. ring was started with the intent of linking together all the web pages of the cats who participate (or participated at one time) in the Usenet newsgroup rec.pets.cats.community (formerly MeowChat in rec.pets.cats, pre-split). This ring is only for the rec.pets.cats.community cats; there are several other cat rings in existence, if that is what you are looking for.
If you are interested in joining the R.P.C.C. web ring, please follow the seven easy steps listed below. Please read them carefully before you register with the ring.
1. Choose a pair of graphics from these sets. Right click on the graphics to save them. Please do not link to the graphics on this server.
2. Register with the ring. The URL may be for the index page (if the cats have their own site), to their page (if they share part of their "hoomin's" website), or to the index of the "hoomin" site, if the link to the cat's page(s) are easily noticed. Use your own judgement on which works best for you.
3. After you register, you will be emailed the HTML fragment. Make sure to write down your site number and password. They will be needed if you wish to update your site's info at a later date.
4. Cut the code from the email message and paste it into your cat page. It doesn't matter where; if you have a "web rings" page, that's great. Or at the bottom of your index page. Just somewhere that it can be easily found. If for some reason you have trouble with the emailed code, go here for a copy and setup help.
5. Edit the code to insert your name. Double check that your email address is correct, as well as your site number.
6. When completed, your page should show the R.P.C.C. Web Ring code as below in the example, but with your name in the blank.

(Note: The above is not a working copy of the R.P.C.C. Web Ring code but is provided to show you how it should look when properly installed. A working copy of the ring is available at the bottom of this page.)
7. After the code and graphics are displaying correctly on your page, e-mail the ringmistress at gypsy@mooncrystal.com and ask to be added to the ring. After your page has been reviewed, and the code has been verified to work properly, you will be added to the ring. You will receive an e-mail telling you that you've been added, and will be able to navigate the entire ring.
If you are already part of the R.P.C.C. Web Ring and need to edit your site's attributes (URL, your e-mail address, site description, or password), click here to be taken to the edit login page.
